Training  Workshop 'Urban Innovation'
   
Introduction 

Major cities are pre-eminently the place where people innovate. Cities are platforms for exchange. The determining factors entrepreneurship, knowledge and capital are amply available. The difference between cities can be described as Urban DNA in which the specific fingerprints are fixed. Local authorities that want to boost the innovation output must know which knobs to turn.

ECORYS' expertise
This Workshop Urban Innovation is a new concept, based on the 80 years of ECORYS experience in all aspects of urban economic development. Innovation policy at a local level in the Netherlands is rather new. At this moment ECORYS is doing research on innovation output and technological clusters in several cities and regions. Participants can benefit from this broad experience by attending the Workshop Urban Innovation.

  • Relationship public-private sector in the urban economy
  • Characteristics of the city: definition, geography, dimensions, urban systems in Europe, economic structure, policies
  • History and culture as the basis for Urban DNA
  • Innovation, Innovation systems and their arena’s
  • The urban system: opportunities and threats for innovation
  • Innovation as part of the Urban Competitive Strength
  • Own cases for participants
  • Speedconsult (Participants can phrase a local question/problem which will be tackled the next session)
   
Aim The aim of this workshop is to offer insight for administrators and officials of cities how innovation works in an urban environment and how to stimulate it.
   
Gains The Workshop offers an overview over the phenomenon Innovation in the urban environment and how to develop and underpin a local innovation policy. By working at an own case and the offered  Speedconsult participants can relate the content of the Workshop to the local situation.
