14 June 2010 - ECORYS Academy is organising the seminar 'Climate Neutrality in the Built Environment' as first European Alert Seminar.

In recent times, the Environment and Climate Change rightfully receive the attention of policy- makers, international organisations and the general public. Political efforts have resulted in the development of several implementation schemes to help deliver tangible results in reducing the environmental impact humanity has on the planet we live on

A key component of legislation to reduce energy consumption and eliminating wastage is the European Commission's Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). The Directive has indentified the built environment as a crucial sector in which reductions in energy consumption can be accomplished.

ECORYS is pleased to be able to cater to the need for practical solutions to energy efficiency at local level. Organising workshops for various clients across the Netherlands has proven to be an effective way of delivering to clients the knowledge they need of engineering, finance and legislation to focus their efforts on reaching a more energy-efficient building stock.

ECORYS workshops typically elaborate on the following:

  • Which regulations and procurement schemes are relevant to promote energy efficiency in the built environment;
  • What are the costs and benefits of specific improvements  to local buildings? A detailed answer to this question is offered employing the ENERGYSCAN model;
  • Finally, local best practice is discussed and knowledge-sharing between stakeholders is promoted and channelled.

The mixture of technical and procurement themes covered by the workshops ensure a focused and lasting commitment by the partners to effectively increase energy efficiency in the built environment. Making this start at a local level is a crucial first step in addressing the human carbon footprint around the globe.

Seminars on Climate Neutrality in the Built Environment will take place on 26 August 2010 and 12 October 2010 in Rotterdam.
